City Furniture began as Waterbed City in 1971 by founder, Kevin Koenig. The first Waterbed City showroom, a mere 800 square feet, opened in Fort Lauderdale shortly after Kevin obtained his Master's Degree in Business Administration. |

Waterbed styles in the 1970's were simple structures, consisting of basic wood frames. Kevin cut and stained the frames by night and sold them by day. And when Kevin wasn't building waterbeds, he was familiarizing the public with waterbeds. He spent every dime he could on advertising, and it paid off! Customers kept coming into the modest showroom and he soon realized a bigger store was vital. Our first expansion was from 800 square feet to 1400 square feet, and soon more showrooms followed. In 1990 we expanded our product line by introducing innerspring mattresses. These mattresses fueled so much growth that we quickly realized our potential. We developed our product line even further into home furnishings. |
In September of 1994, Waterbed City evolved into City Furniture. This involved expanding our product line to include living and dining room furniture, wall units, home theatre, and ready-to-assemble furniture. With this evolution came a new philosophy...to combine quality brand-name home furnishings with fantastic everyday low prices, and a strong commitment to great customer service. We even added some FUN, making our showrooms an exciting, enjoyable place to shop with friendly faces always there to help. City Furniture continues to grow and develop everyday, with new and innovative home furnishings and accessories that truly makes us your Ultimate Furniture Store. |
